MIFQ provides specialised programs and services for people living with mental illness, and their families and carers. Our work encompasses metropolitan, regional and rural Queensland, supporting thousands of people each year. At MIFQ we believe in recovery and our team applies an empowerment approach to support.
Our programs support people living with mental illness at various stages of their recovery to live independently in the community.
Examples of support include:
- Strengthening skills in areas of daily living;
- Participating in community activities;
- Supporting with obtaining accommodation and employment;
- Developing social networks; and
- Accessing community services.
Opportunities
MIFQ is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Support Workers for casual support work and although we may not have an immediate role to fill in all our regions, we are seeking staff who are interested in flexible and supportive work arrangements with a leading mental health organisation.
We want experienced mental health Support Workers to partner with us to deliver on our mission that people affected by mental illness live the life of their choice, are accepted and valued in the community and that families and carers are supported and validated. We need people with a customer service focus to be brand ambassadors for MIFQ as we move through the transformation and major system reform, otherwise known as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The NDIS supports people to manage day to day core tasks and supports their capacity to connect to the community and work towards their goals and aspirations. MIFQ is proud to work within recovery oriented framework to support participants to connect to their sense of self and be active citizens in their communities.
Working within an NDIS framework means that participants are given the opportunity to exercise choice and control about what organisation and worker they would like to use to enact their NDIS Plan. MIFQ are seeking workers with a range of skills and interests that would meet the varied needs of our NDIS customers.
About You
- A good understanding of mental illness and its impact;
- Knowledge of the NDIS and what it means for people experiencing mental illness;
- An ability to implement strengths-based, person centered and recovery oriented support;
- A strong ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, show sound judgement and operate within professional boundaries;
- Comprehensive IT knowledge and record keeping skills;
- A minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health, Community Services or Similar and/or relevant experience in a Support Worker role;
- Licensed to drive in the state of Queensland;
- Ability to utilise your personal vehicle for work related purposes (please note full comprehensive insurance is mandatory and work related mileage is reimbursed at relevant rates);
- Employment is subject to completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Screening with the Department of Communities.
